What is brown sauce made of in Thai cuisine?

I'm eating vegan for a while, but plan on visiting a Thai restaurant. What is usually in brown sauce?

1. "brown sauce" is a generalized sauce, and could mean tons of things. there isn't a standard thai brown sauce. LIKELY though, it will include fish sauce, which is to thailand, as soy sauce is to china. Fish sauce is fermented fish, usually anchovies & salt
