Thai Drama (Lakorn) >> Help please!? There was this Thai drama that used to run on Suria (a channel in Singapore) which I used to watch quite avidly as a young kid. The problem is, I can't remember the title. I vaguely remember the scenes and the actors, but nothing else. I'll know I'll be able to recognise it though if I manage to hear the theme song or see a few screencaps. The starting theme song is pretty catchy and fast. It's set in a village. Genre is romance and it revolves mostly around 4 people. One of them is an important person, the leader of the village if I'm not mistaken or something like that. He's already in love with one of the village girls who loves him back but there's another woman who wants to try and steal him away, most probably for the prestige and money. There's another guy who likes this latter girl but she doesn't give him the time of the day due to him just being an ordinary person. One of the scenes I remembered was the girl reluctantly hitching a ride on the back of his bicycle and the guy grinning away like a mad person. Yes. The plot is cheesy and cliched. Lol. But I was young at the time and didn't know any better. Felt like taking a trip down nostalgic lane. Also, are there any other better places I can post this question? Why do we still call the Thai capital Bangkok? Okay so in the 18th Century King Rama of Thailand built a capital on the small fishing village of Bangkok but then renamed it something else. However he later decided to move his capital to the other side of the river and called it Krungthep and the former 'Bangkok' kept it's new name. So nowadays, Not only was 'Bangkok' never the capital but it doesn't even exist anymore. Most Thai's aren't even aware that others call the capital Bangkok, and have only heard of it through western tourism and media. To call Krung Thep, Bangkok is like calling Washington D.C New York because that was once the US capital, of calling London York or Winchester because they're former capitals. It makes no sense, so why do we still do it?

Too many distractions in these places. I need to find a roommate & this is a nice size (approx 1200 sqft) duplex w/2 baths, small rm/office, dishwsher, cntrl a/c, storage, 10 min. dtown, near 3 major bus lines, exprsswy, metra, & subways. Prkng is ok. There are $400,000 condos all around & walking dis. Wicker Park, sushi, pizza, mex, thai, cafes, groceries, clubs, trendy bars, banks. I mean the 'hood' is becoming amazing, compared to when I moved here 5 yrs ago....dealers used to stand where 1/2 mil. condos are now. The place has dig. expanded tv, cable & wireless net, it's own hotwater heater, unlimited phone (Vontage), I get groceries delivered, deep freezer. The person get their own bath & will have over half the LR, storage & hallways to do with what they want. My cats stay in my room. I am neat, clean, very organized & loves to cook gourmet dishes. The 'neg' is, I like loud club/dance music (I can play when no1's here), keep the place cold & not alot of sunshine gets in. Same apart. in area is well over $1800. Advice!?

First visit to Thailand with family - budget places? Hello friends, I'm planning to take my parents and my 16-yr old brother to Thailand. I want to stay 3 days in Bangkok and three days in Pattaya. Question 1: Accomodation I have a very tight budget... can't spend more than 2000 baht a day on accomodation (for all 4 of us). I'd love to hear advice on good guesthouses and hotels in decent areas. Nothing fancy or frilly... but tasteful and quaint places that showcase Thai culture would be great. Can you help me with my Bangkok itinerary? I have four days to spend in Bangkok. It is my first time & I want to squeeze in everything I can on a budget. Would it be advisable if I stayed in Khao San Road in my first two days and then transfer to Sukhumvit on the remaining two days? Or vice-versa? How does one commute from Sukhumvit to Khao San Road? Or should I just stay in one area for the entire duration of my vacation? I am interested in tours wherein I can sightsee and exercise at the same time, like a bike tour. How can I get my dad who lives on the other side of the world give my mom and I more money to live on? My dad went crazy and moved to Thailand, taking all the money with him. My handicapped mom and I only have a few hundred to live on per month. But we both really need to see a dentist. My dad never returns my emails. Should I go to Manhattan or hiking in the moutains this afternoon? Since I appreciate and trust the good advice from ALL in R&S, I am asking this question here. ALL answers are welcome, from atheist to mormon to scientologist to Christian!!!! I want to get out of the house this afternoon and do something. Should I go to the mountains (more like hills, but it's wilderness) and hike some of the deep trails there that lead to mines and shelters (Harriman State Park in NY State)??? After hiking I would have Sushi for dinner at a great Sushi place between the park and where I live. Or, should I head into Manhattan and visit an art museum, followeed by a visit to Willner Chemists for some homeopathic medicines and vitamins, and then go Karaoke (Sing-Sing on St. Mark's) in the East Village, and then have great Thai food for dinner with my friend Phil whom I haven't seen in months??? Anyway, both of these are about the same distance from where I live in Northern NJ....which would you choose??? I will be leaving my house at 1:00 to 1:30... FYI - it's about 32 degrees F here (0 Cel.)... It should get a little bit colder in the evening...It's cloudy with a slight, slight chance of snow flurries later in the evening. ...just telling you in case the weather/temp will help you in giving me advice.

visiting the family? Hi im due to visit my thai girlfriends family for the first time soon, i will be the first man she has taken home. She has told me that there is practically no foreigners in her village. Im just wondering if there is anybody out there who has a thai girl or used too, and has visited a thai family before. I want to know what should i expect, should i give them gifts? I know it is alot different from england. So if there is anyone out there who has experienced this and could lighten me on what to expect then i would be gratefull. Oahu restaurant reviews and other suggestions (ones you've tried recently please)? Going next week and I've picked up several ideas from this board and other places. I'd like to know if anyone has been to any of the following recently (say the last 6-9 months) and IF/WHY you did or did not like it (specifics please...cleanliness, service, value, taste). Should I get back with my ex? Okay, well I feel a bit lame for asking this here, but, I'm at my wits end. For two and a half years I was with someone whom I adored and loved a lot. We had many hard times together and some good ones as well. During and after my last deployment (just over a year ago) my heart was really breaking a lot. Needless to say, my ex and I broke up about 7 months ago. Where she would often threaten to leave me and go on her own way, I finally gave in and left. Since, we have broken up I changed duty stations. I've always loved my work and where I'm at now I love it even more. I've pretty much buried myself in between work and working out. I been focusing on excelling my career. I just can't shake her, so-to-speak. I'm not a person that goes back and fourth on decisions. I put myself through a lot of heartache with her, because, I loved her so much. Names, throwing stuff, hitting me, yelling, threats, neglect, and other stuff were commonplace for me to experience with her. However, there were often times that just her smiling at me for something I did was all that I ever needed. So, I stayed. Now that we are living apart and have rarely seen each other, she wants to tell me how much it hurts being away from me. She has admitted to things she has done and said to me as being wrong. For 5 of the 7 months, I was helping her a little with her rent, since I wanted to make sure her and her daughter are okay. The last couple months, she hasn't asked for any help. (Except to use my car to go to work sometimes. She works as a server for a club downtown, at night, on weekends sometimes). She knows I felt used. Even more-so when she once said she had been "waiting for someone better". She's tried to make up with me and try things my way and go slow. At first I wanted nothing to do with her. I slowly started being open to seeing once a week, but, she got pushy and wanted to rush. I told her now and to forget about it. A few weeks ago she said she was okay with going to eat once a week or so and not being intimate. I haven't wanted to be intimate with her nor ANYONE else since we broke up and I moved out. See, the thing is that I still hurt and I still do actually miss her. When I have my days off and not in the field, I think about wanting to call her and go walk Seaport Village, go to the movies, the lake, Tea Station, Pho, Thai, sushi, go to PB or any beaches or piers and just be around her. I think about just wanting a good hug from her like we used to sometimes. I also start thinking about how it was about 80% fake on HER part. I know she totally used me while I was in Iraq on my last deployment. And I know she was dating another guy 5 months while I was gone as well. And I know she's on dating sites even now. I want to accept her back and start slowly with her again, but, I feel like she will be the same as she was. I have a slight feeling she may be being honest and is actually changing. I just want, more than anything, to not be hurt again. She's finally (at least for a few days) accepted that I don't want anything to do with her and not been texting me like she used to since I left. Her and I used to at least give "good morning" and "good night" texts and the like. Now, I get nothing. Like I said, I know she's on internet dating sites, that I've looked for her on. However, I don't know if she JUST made the profile(s) due to finally giving in or has she been lying this whole time? So many questions.... I just want us to be happy, either together or apart. I don't want to be the one actually hurting her. I don't want to hurt anymore either. I don't let myself get intimate or close to anyone else because I feel she's the only one that can fill what's missing. Yet, as the same time, I don't feel it CAN be fixed... or if it would even be real. I'm sorry this was so long. Any help would be awesome. -J My new duty station is still local, in San Diego. Can I use yahoo emails as evidence in court? I am British but live in Thailand because I lost custody to my son, which was a complete one sided case. There are two issues one is my fantastic Thai Lawyer did not inform me of the actual hearing, but more important he did not take me to the welfare for in interview (If I could understand the language; I would have gone and known the court hearing date) The worst case was that me Thai X and her lover (My friend from the UK), which was why I divorced her, and the fact she left me with my son, secondly she took him and left him in the village with her family; I paid the police to find him which was about three months. Once found I went and took him back and put him back to school and as stated I took her to court for custody. Normally the courts would not make judgement if you did not attend, but they did because my X and her boyfriend stated under oath that I threw her out of the home, and that they were on friend and he was her boss (Yes she works for him) and worst case was that they both said I was a drunk and a sex pervert I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't take drugs; I had no chance to put my case forward, Anyhow after two year the appeal court gave me 50-50 custody and three weekends every month; my x has now taken it to the Supreme Court, which over here will take about five years. My son will be thirteen by then and will make his own mind-up where to live; the courts or police will not go against his choice. OK now my big situation is that I managed to access her email account and forwarded about 20 emails from her boyfriend to her and she to him dated the time of the court case; obviously they were both under oath. I now want to submit these emails to the court and make a case that they both committed perjury; would this be viable in the UK; if so then I will have a go over here (Thailand)

Travel drama please help? Hi guys Just need some advice on travel. My wifes parents are thai and speak no english at all. We have recently had a a baby girl and desperately what the grandparent to see their grand daughter . With the recent problems in Thailand we cannot fly over there, so we have to fly her parents here to the Uk. The only problem is my wifes parents have never left their village and are with the greatest respect quite primitive. Also with the current climate financially we dont have a large amount of money to fly them direct with Thai airways as they are quite expensive. The only flights we can afford are a stop over in the middle east . We are concerned that her parents may land in the middle east and miss connecting flights and be unable to communicate with anyone where. Does anyone know if a chaperon service is available or do you have any ideas on how to resolve this problem. Thanx

What's a good first date with a wood sprite? I met this cute wood sprite girl at an art gallery opening in the East Village, and got her digits. I'm going to ask her out but I don't know what wood sprites like or where to take her. I was thinking of a perfect little Thai place I know on Avenue A, but then after, should I take her out for a drink or to Starbucks??? Do they drink coffee? Or alcohol?? Is Thai food a good choice? International T Day (Get Thin Day) Set by President Obama? I read that 90% of Americans are overweight. I read 70% of Europeans are overweight. I live in Bangkok and judging from what I see about 30% of Thai people are overweight. I have seen thousands of Muslims wearing Islamic robes and most of them are overweight. It is a not a problem; it is an international pandemic. It must be having a huge impact on the world economy. I am not a statistics expert but it seams to me an equation could be formulated which estimates the cost of obesity based on US Dollars. It may be 3-4-5-6 trillion dollars per year of wasted money worldwide. #1- It impacts health insurance costs. #2 - Lost worker productivity. #3 - It causes deaths – #4 – Billions are spent on diet control books, medicines, weight loss programs. #5 – Billions are wasted on food that is not needed by fat people who overeat. #6 – Fossil fuels are wasted during the billions of extra car trips fat people take to satisfy food cravings every year. You can probably think of a hundred other ways obesity impacts the world financially. If we could add it all up it would be a staggering number. I think President Obama should set a “T Day” which would initiate an international effort to reduce obesity. If fat people had an internationally recognized day to begin their diet and fitness program it could give them a stronger resolved and increase their will to get thin. Everyone who is overweight can buy the T Day arm band kit for a few dollars. The armband kit would have plastic numbers 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 included to show the number of pounds lost since T Day. Each person could self edit the arm band numbers as they lose weight. If you see a lady at the Mall wearing an armband with the number 12 on it you would know she has lost 12 pounds since T Day. You could make a comment to her like: way to go…you look great…keep it up. You could encourage her even if you are a skinny person. People who are searching for the passion to lose the weight can receive positive reinforcement from society at large each time they leave the house. Weekly or monthly meeting can be held so everyone who is trying to get thin in the T Day program can have fellowship. The meetings can be held in every village, hamlet, city, county, province, state, and nation of the world! I think if President Barack Obama was the person to set the “T Day” starting date it would have the highest impact on the world. What do you think about my concept?

response to maggie. Not quite sure how to respond to your last paragraph. But Iv`e added a bit more info? I met my girlfriend back in 2003 so now its 2009. And were still Communicating 6 years on. Unfortunately she has no access to the internet as she lives out in the countryside. Province: Chaiyaphum. Khon Sawan her nearest village. Not like the built up area`s, Bangkok- Pattaya etc. So it is impossible for us to e-mail each other. I have shown letters and birthday cards and X-mas cards etc to the embassy!! She is quite good at speaking English and can write a few words. Alot better than I could ever try writing in Thai!! So i think that is not an issue!! We apply ed for a visitors visa and obviously I was to be the sponsor. Just so we can spend sometime together as it is hard for me to take the time off to go and visit her as often as I would like to. Due to work commitments. Would $1000 be enough for 4 weeks travel in Thailand? The money is excluded of air ticket to Thailand, just the money I plan to spend within Thailand. I am going to travel with a friend, with whom I am going to share the hotel room with. I plan to go to 4 or 5 places in total, including Bangkok(well, if the political situation is good by July). Expecting to sleep some nights in reasonable night hotels, some nights in guesthouses, half Thai cheap food and half in restaurants, things I would like to do are swiming, hanging out on the beach, trekking, see some shows( if my friend likes it), sailing. I am not big drinker and we would travel by train and bus. And also we plan to spend a whole week at some quiet place like in a village to enjoy being together. For example, assisting the sick and elderly, giving out medicine, playing with the kids, performing for ppl, and was the leader of the mission relief group. Do Christians really value the lives of people? ? They provoke people for violence and then say they are persecuted!People see the violence in India and Srilanka against Christians but they ignore why it happens because world media is controlled by Christians and they spin the story completely around. Can I use yahoo emails as evidence in court? I am British but live in Thailand because I lost custody to my son, which was a complete one sided case. Once found I went and took him back and put him back to school and as stated I took her to court for custody. Normally the courts would not make judgement if you did not attend, but they did because my X and her boyfriend stated under oath that I threw her out of the home, and that they were on friend and he was her boss (Yes she works for him) and worst case was that they both said I was a drunk and a sex pervert I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't take drugs; I had no chance to put my case forward, Anyhow after two year the appeal court gave me 50-50 custody and three weekends every month; my x has now taken it to the Supreme Court, which over here will take about five years. My son will be thirteen by then and will make his own mind-up where to live; the courts or police will not go against his choice. OK now my big situation is that I managed to access her email account and forwarded about 20 emails from her boyfriend to her and she to him dated the time of the court case; obviously they were both under oath. I now want to submit these emails to the court and make a case that they both committed perjury; would this be viable in the UK; if so then I will have a go over here (Thailand)

Will I get into the Naval ACademy? Will I get into the Naval ACademy? I do have myopia, which is farsigtedness.. My fitness assesment test, I did 8 pullups, 67 pushups, did over the max amount for crunches, and ran a 6:15 mile... and a very fast shuttle run..( I"m track sprint captain) I've had a rough high school, a bit tumultuous i daresay. Before I state my .. accomplishments, I will first say this. I had no clue there were service academies till the end of my junior year. Hence, if I knew there was a school out there for me, I would have gotten 4.0 gpa no joke. From freshman to junior year, my Gpa cumulative is 2.57, and weighted 3.09. By the end of my high school, I will have taken 7-8 AP courses, and about 6-7 science classes. And I won the school science fair, got 2nd place in counties, and am entered in the JS HS, a national science contest. I also got a 1940 on my SATs. I'm the top violinist in my school, one of the best in the state. I have 399 hours of community service, and I've gone to other countries, villages, such as Thailand and Mexico and did a lot of stuff there. For example, assisting the sick and elderly, giving out medicine, playing with the kids, performing for ppl, and was the leader of the mission relief group. I've been to AIDS orphanages nad stuff. which really changed me.. I'm 17 btw. I'm also the indoor and outdoor track captain of my school, as well as first violin/ 2nd chair (I should be first haha). I'm also the co-chair for Key Club, and President/leader for FCA, the largest christian club in the nation (Fellowship of Christian AThletes) I can be a leader, and I know what to do. I've started out at the bottom, and made my way up to the top. But my GPA is awful. Yeah... i'm like a retarded sevant, ..... People hear I get 1940, Science fair and blabla, violinist, Track caPtain, but my gpa is... retarded. But due to several reasons whcih will devour this page, I will withdraw from stating them. But I will say, my desire to achieve academically has skyrocketed. Hence, this first quarter of my senior year, I have receieved a 3.42 GPA and 4.2 Weighted, with Ap and Honors classes. I'm going to go to States this year, definintely.... and yeah.. I applied for my nominations, but Mikulski has not given me hers. I jsut have to wait for cardin or edwards. Truth is, I'm not sure If anything will go right because of my damn GPA. But I can't look back right now, and I need to look foward. The Naval Academy is where I need to go to fulfill my destiny, that's how I like to think of it. I know I have what it takes, and I know that I won't regret it at all. I want to serve. And I'm Korean, making me a minority, fluent in korean speaking writing and understanding, good at Spanish, a bit of japanese and some thai, and.. yeah. WILL I GET INTO THE USNA???
