Thai Pepper Restaurant Knowledge Base
Thai sauce that I think is made with apple sauce? Hi, my dad loves going to this Thai restaurant, called the pink pepper. They have a sauce there that looks like apple sauce and tastes like apple sauce but not totally, we think it must have something added to it. Does anyone know what this sauce is?
Does anyone know a good place to get ground thai pepper powder (without the seeds) in Dallas, TX? I am referring to the hot thai pepper, I believe also referred to as prig kee nu or bird eye's pepper. There is a local restaurant that serves these ground into a powder with their dishes and it is absolutely wonderful, and I would love to find it for home use. I don't mind ordering from an online company, if someone can direct me to the correct powder. I have found several online stores, but none seem to specify what type of pepper they are using. The labels I have seen say something generic like ground hot chili, etc.
What are Thai Hot Peppers Called? Whenever I go to the Thai restaurant, I request the condiment tray. One of the choices is these little little red peppers (pickled) which are still like little hand grenades when I bite into them. They are tiny, about the size of a large pea. Does anybody know what these are called?
How do you make the thai dish "Gang Dang?"? I had it in a thai restaurant a month ago. It had chicken, peppers and other vegetables in it. It almost tasted of peanuts, but REALLY strong flavours, almost blew my head off but I love it!
What is the chili sauce they serve at Thai restaurants called? When I'm at a Thai restaurant and I want to make my food spicier, the waiter/waitress always brings some crushed red peppers and a little bowl of chili sauce or paste. Does anyone know what the chili sauce is called? It has a wonderfully fresh, sweet flavor. I bought a jar of something that looked similar at an Asian market, but the flavor wasn't the same at all. Can someone please tell me what to look for? Thanks! It's not sriracha. It's more of a chunky sauce with seeds in it.
What are red Thai peppers? A friend who works at a local Thai restaurant shared their recipe for Lettuce Wraps with me. He was giving it to me via translation from one of the Thai cooks, so things went pretty fast and I didn't really have a chance to ask questions. I got it all, except one of the ingredients was "red Thai peppers". I'm trying to figure out what this ingredient might be. Is it a dried pepper? A fresh pepper? Do they have another name they might go by? All I can really deduce about them for sure is that they're red, they're hot, and they probably have a distinct flavor which sets them apart as being "Thai". So does anyone know what "red Thai peppers" are?
Eating out tonight at a Thai restaurant. On a diet. HELP!? I LOVE Thai food and tonight my family is going to a Thai restaurant. I picked out some of the things that I can choose between. My favorite dish is Panang curry, so can anybody tell me how bad it is? Panang Thai basil, peas, green and red peppers in a special Panang sauce. A fine blend of dried chili, lemon grass, shallot, garlic, galanga, kaffir lime leaves and coconut milk. Angkor Healthy soup (original khmer soup) Homemade broth with chicken breast enhanced by a smoked fish imported from Cambodia with a taste of lemon grass blending well with fresh baby spinach, squash, zucchini, straw mushrooms and taro root. Angkor Salad With marinated and grilled beef flank steak. A mix of fresh lettuce, red, yellow and green peppers, sweet red and vidalla onions, fresh bean sprouts, basil and mint leaves, galanga, lemon grass, lime rind, roasted peanuts with sauce Bei Moarn Steamed chicken and flavored chef sauce. Finished with cucumber, lettuce and served with pineapple sauce and rice. Again, I would most like to get the panang, and maybe the soup with my meal, but those are some options. How unhealthy do you think the panang is, and what do you think is the best option? Thank you so much!
A Thai dish I can't stop thinking about? I went to New York City last summer, and my mom and I ate lunch at a Thai restaurant. I had this lunch special dish that was made with potatoes, green onions, yellow curry, and chicken. There were little flecks of pepper in it. It was the greatest thing I've ever eaten and I can't stop thinking about it. Can ANYBODY tell me what it's called so I can drive an hour to the nearest Thai restaurant and know what I'm ordering?
i'm looking for a recipie for a thai dish? i'm not sure what it's called. the menu at the thai restaurant calls it lhad nah graporaow. it has rice, i assume diced or crushed Asian peppers, diced green peppers, some kinda leaf, maybe mint leaf but i'm not sure, and ground pork, and it has a fried egg on top. plus whatever seasonings. it seems to be a very simple dish.
How to make pineapple fried rice? I tried to make some thai-style pineapple fried rice and it turned out ok except I'm not a big fan of the soy sauce taste. Any suggestions for what sauce should I use instead so it tastes more like fried rice you have at thai restaurants. Also I cooked chicken with it but it was too dry after it was cooked. What should I do to make the chicken more moist and flavorful? I seasoned it with salt, pepper, and basil before cooking.
"Hot Thai Noodle" Recipe? Hi all! I love this one dish from a Thai restaurant in Toronto, Canada (Salad King) which they call "Hot Thai Noodle". I doubt that's the real name for it since I've searched like crazy to find the recipe. Could someone please give me some recipes that they think might fit my brief description of the dish below? I'm willing to try anything! The dish is a noodle dish, with chicken and shrimp in it. It is a chili sauce base (not sure what kind) and has egg in it as well. Veggies in the dish include broccoli, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and it is usually topped with a slice of orange. The sauce is an orangey colour, but I've been told that it might get its colour from adding ketcup to the dish? (apparently Salad King adds ketchup to some dishes to give them better colour). The dish itself is not that spicey (unless you put extra chili sauce in). If you have any ideas of what this could be please let me know! The restaurant that serves this dish also serves Pad Thai, so it's not that, and I don't think it has peanuts in it (but I could be wrong). This is the description from the Stir Fried noddles section of the restaurant's menu: Hot Thai Noodles - Rice noodles, chicken, shrimp, broccoli, carrots, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms & egg

Is it really this easy? If so, why aren't we doing this? We don’t have to drive tiny cars, drill the Florida Coast or destroy valuable fields of corn to solve the gas crisis. We already have the alternative fuel we need. We can stop our absolute dependence on the Middle East and Exxon-Mobile in a matter of months. Seriously. The answer is simple and the fuel is already here, processed and ready to use. It's sitting on grocery store shelves and in deep fryers all across America. The diesel engine was originally designed to burn vegetable oil. With a simple, cheap modification any diesel engine will burn vegetable oil. Ask your mechanic. Google it. It’s true. Not only will fresh Wesson get you there in a diesel, but the oil collected and dumped every day from restaurants and institutions across the country can be strained and poured right into your tank. How wonderful is that? A twice used fuel with no emissions and no dependency on anyone. No one. Not the Middle East and not the Oil Companies. Tractor trailers criss-cross this country constantly burning thousands of gallons of diesel every day. Those engines could be modified to burn vegetable oil immediately. This would slash transportation cost, which is driving prices on everything we buy. Why don't we hear this on the news? Why aren't they shouting from the rooftops that every diesel from a Mercedes to a Tractor Trailer will burn vegetable oil? Greed. Imagine running out of fuel in the middle of the night. The only light in sight turns out to be a home. No gas, but Granny has vegetable oil in the kitchen. Pour it in your tank and you’re on your way. It's an oil executive’s nightmare. The long and short term benefits of burning vegetable oil instead of fossil fuel are wide ranging. Fuel prices will drop to nothing. How does 40 or 50 cents a gallon sound? Without Co2 emissions Global Warming will return to normal, Child Asthma will virtually disappear and Los Angeles will lose it's infamous smog. Maybe best of all we will no longer need Middle East Oil. This takes countries like Iran out of the economic equation for us. They can't threaten us with oil we don't need. Sounds too good to be true, too easy to be real, but it's not. If we burn vegetable oil we will be healthier and wealthier, the Earth will begin to heal and our children will have a cleaner, brighter future. . We need cheap, clean fuel. The direction we choose now will plot a course for decades to come. Don't let Bought Politicians and Oil Companies decide our future on this. What's in our best interest is not in theirs. You don't have to wait for someone else to do something about this. You can have your mechanic do it, or you can do it yourself. Visit www.GreaseCar.com and see how easy it is to burn Green. Take a look at the GreaseCar Profile below - He gets his fuel from the Thai Restaurant down the street. Pretty Exciting! Pepper Newman www.greasecar.com I just came across this article and found it interesting. I'm not saying I'm against it or for it, because I don't know if this is an actual resolution to our oil crisis. I just think if it's really this simple, as the article makes it seem, then why wouldn't we be utilizing this type of energy?
How do you like your Thai, and what dish? http://s618.photobucket.com/albums/tt267/HauteCoutoure_2009/?action=view¤t=IMGP0672.jpg This is a Thai nun and friend making me lunch. I cannot eat in restaurants anymore. This is just too good for words. What and How do you like your Thai. Have you ever broken a sweat from the chili peppers?
How do I make "Pad Spicy" from "King and I" in St. Louis, MO? There is a restaurant in St. Louis called "King and I" - it is the #1 Thai place in town. They have a dish called 'Pad Spicy' that is awesome. The menu description is: Stir Fried meat, bell pepper, basil leaves, with touch of ground fresh chili, garlic and wine... Sounds easy right? Not so much - I have searched for other recipes like this - but searching for 'Pad Spicy' on the web doesn't bring up anything useful. Has anyone ever been there and copied their recipe for Pad Spicy ? The 'pad' part can be either beef chicken or pork. Thanks!@ Uhh- I think you gave me a recipe for a pillow or something. While it looks interesting, not exactly something I would eat for dinner :)
What are general ingredients for a Thai curry? I have some red Thai curry sauce I need to use up, and I was wondering if I had the proper ingredients in my home, to make a curry... or if I need to go shopping. I was planning on using lo mein noodles, carrots, peppers, onion, broccoli, and bean sprouts. I'm still not sure on if I'll use shrimp or tofu though, for protein. It's been ages since I had a proper Thai curry in a restaurant though, and I'm not sure if these are more stir-fry geared ingredients...? Also, the date on my bottle of sauce (currently unopened) is tomorrow, for "best by"... if I delayed until the weekend to use it, would that be too late? This is actually a pre-made sauce by "Taste of Thai". I'm pretty sure it already has turmeric in it. If I wanted to add more separately though, how much should I add... a teaspoon? 1/2 teaspoon? I guess I'm trying to ask, more than anything else, what the typical vegetables are for a Thai curry.
What to add to Thai fried rice to make it spicy? I'm looking to make some Thai fried rice tonight and am just looking for advice. When ordering this dish in a restaurant I typically order it "hot" which is very, very spicy (the way I like it). Most recipes I see on the net though are either non-spicy or contain very little pepper. I'm guessing there is at least some sauce involved here since when I order spicy vs non-spicy the rice always comes a bit "wetter" and always had a more pronounced red tint to it. I've tried the Sriracha chili sauce before and it sufficed to make it hot, but lacked the vibrant flavor I was looking for. I've also seen some thai chili paste at the asian market with seeds floating in it. Is this likely to do any better? Is there another method I might try? Thanks.
Please help me find this recipe... Coconut tasty soup? I went to this Thai-Japanese restaurant, they serve bento boxes and sushi. They brought this delicious soup that taste like a spicy coconut liquid (you can see the little pieces of crushed peppers) it also have pieces of chicken, mushrooms and something green. can you please help me to find a recipe for this soup. Thanks a lot.

What is the spiciest type of food? My friend and I have a competition. We go to a restaurant, order the spiciest thing on the menu, and tell the chef to make it as spicy as he can. If my friend can eat the whole dish, I pay for his dinner. However, he is very very good at eating spices (he eats red hot chili peppers whole). So he can easily handle the spiciest American, Chinese, and Mexican foods. My question is - what cuisines are spicier? How can I stump him? I know that Indian and Thai food can be quite spicy. Are there any others? Which ones are the spiciest?
What is this thai dish? I had it at a restaurant recently and it had a bunch of different mushrooms in it it was two different words, one started with a 'k' I think maybe lol it was vegetarian-friendly I don't really have a better description, sorry I think there were peppers in it too?
What makes Indian food so hot (spicy)? It's not like the spice in Mexican or Chinese/Thai foods. It's a completely different kind of heat. Does anyone know the type of spice they use? I know all the regular (not hot) spices, such as Cumin, etc., but can't figure out what kinds of peppers (or otherwise) they use. In this one local Indian restaurant, they ask how hot you want it, from 1 to 10. I usually get an 8. I ask them about the spice, and they just don't seem to understand. Thank you!
A certain spot of my bottom lip tingles and swells after I eat dinner. What is it? A food allergy? This has happened to me about 4 times over the past 3 months. It is always the same spot- it tingles, then feels numb a little and swells up so it appears as a bump. But it goes away in about 5 hours. I noticed that the past 4 times it has happened to me, I've eaten at either a Thai restaurant or Japanese restaurant. I think it might be a certain sauce I had with red peppers or the jalepenos. Can somebody help me out? It's really weird and I have NEVER been allergic to anything in my life.
Salad King's Hot Thai Noodle Proper Thai Name or Recipe? I love Salad King's (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) Hot Thai Noodle...does any one know the proper Thai name for it or have the recipe? The restaurants description is: Stir Fried Noodles with: Rice noodles, chicken, shrimp, broccoli, carrots, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms & egg This picture is similar to what it looks like: http://www.tasteto.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/saladkingveggie.JPG The dish is not Pad Thai, and is not a chilled noodle salad - I also do not think it has peanuts or peanut butter in it. These are the only recipes I've been able to find online, but it's neither of these, which makes me think that "Hot Thai Noodle" isn't it's real name! If anyone has any recipe ideas, or if you know the real/common Thai name for this dish please let me know! I'm addicted but no longer live close enough to get Salad King!

Does anyone have an easy recipe for Tom Kha Gai? (Thai Coconut Soup)? I was wondering if it is possible to make this delicious soup with american ingredients!!! I currently live in a small town and we have one asian market about 45 minutes away, so I am having trouble getting ingredients such as galangal, kaffir lime, and lemongrass. I have not been able to find those anywhere. I can get soy sauce, coconut milk, fish sauce, dill, cilantro, coriander, and cayenne pepper. Does anyone know a recipe that uses these or similar american ingredients? Also, when I have eaten this soup before at restaurants, there are bits of red oil that lays on top. What is the red oil? Or does it come from the seasonings being heated? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!!!
Pumpkin Curry Recipe? I am looking for a Pumpkin Curry recipe, similar to the dish as it is served in many Thai restaurants in the U.S. Generally it has red peppers in it and is served with rice.
Can spicy food kill you? So I've heard rumors that certain chiles can kill a person or send them to the hospital. I'm having a hard time believing this... I've eaten jalapenos since I was 3 and habenero peppers since I was 10. I have gone to thai restaurants and asked them to make my food as spicy as they can and have been requested by friends to eat the hottest hot sauce or peppers out there. I've been to cozumel and eaten many hot peppers and none of them ever give me a stomach ache though some definitely make my mouth a bit hot, that's ok though. Other than that, what goes in must come out so that's the only downside. I've read in the news some people have been hospitalized, is there a such thing? I eat hot food almost every day and would hate to give it up in fear of hospitalization.
How do you make Pad Ped? In Detroit, many Thai restaurants carry a curry dish simply called Pad Ped. You can get it with many types of meat but it seems to always include onions, green and/or red bell peppers, mushrooms, eggplant, coconut milk and curry (I think it is red curry but I may be wrong). It is usually served with plain steamed rice. I have search hi and low on the web for a recipe for this dish. I have looked at dishes with Pad Ped in the name but have not found one which is similar. I have been to Thai restaurants in other cities and Pad Ped is not on the menu. Can anyone please help with how I would prepare this type of dish? Thanks

Quiz: Your Astrological Food Personality? http://quiz.ivillage.com/astrology/tests/astroeats.htm After you take this quiz, is it reflective off your natal chart? ---- ME: You scored 46.2% Light as Air Refreshing Air energy stimulates your hunger; the probability that you have Gemini, Libra or Aquarius in your birth chart is high. You like meals that are light, quick and easy to take with you on the run. You're a "label looker": You like to analyze the nutritional, fat, fiber and caloric content of your food. Fruits and vegetables appeal to you because they're healthy, delicious and portable. Energy bars, smoothies, wraps, nuts, prepackaged bags of pretzels or trail mix and pita sandwiches are probably some of your other standbys. You aren't likely to indulge in long, languid dinners unless you're surrounded by your favorite conversationalists. While it's admirable that you like to make educated choices about the food you consume, you may be missing out if you always pass up the crème brulee! You scored 30.8% Hot and Spicy Fire Fire energy is what revs up your appetite -- there's a good chance that you have Aries, Leo or Sagittarius in your birth chart. People often describe you as passionate, lively and courageous, so it's no surprise that you favor foods that are a bit daring! You gravitate toward spicy dishes and distinct flavors -- you have no fear of wasabi, chili and cayenne peppers, ginger or garlic! Bland pastas and unseasoned rice dishes bore you to tears, and if you're in charge of selecting a restaurant, you're likely to pick something exotic and unexpected -- Ethiopian, Thai, Caribbean and Cajun are possibilities. You'll try anything once! However, don't be afraid of comfort foods; everybody needs to relax with a cozy bowl of chicken noodle soup from time to time. Think of it as a playful nod to your childhood! ( Water and Earth were low ) Sagittarius sun Leo moon Aquarius rising Sagittarius Mercury Scorpio Venus Aries Mars Gemini Jupiter Well, I really do like the foods for Air Signs. I count calories, fat and fiber. I love anything on the go- yogurt, granola bars, fruits and veggie. I love energy bars! Sandwiches and wraps are among my faves. They did not mention Hot Pockets, but I always imagined Hot Pockets being an air sign food. I don't know why. But I do have the majority of fire in my chart. However, fire comes shortly after air in second place in the quiz. I do like foreign foods as well when I'm in the mood for eating out. Other than that, fire and air are mostly in my chart, so it was pretty right. It did get my eating habits on the spot. :) Have fun!

I'm addicted but no longer live close enough to get Salad King!!!
