What is the secret to cooking Thai food at home? Alright. I am not a bad cook. I have read several Thai cookbooks. But I am danged if I can make it taste like it does at the restaurants. How do I make Thai food less hot? Last night, I got some take-out Thai food from our local restaurant -- the dish was called "Drunken Noodle." It was WAY too hot and spicy for my tastes and even physically burns my tongue when I try eating it. Any ideas about what I might be able to add to the dish to calm down the spiciness? Otherwise, the whole plate will go to waste!
Is Thai food often cooked with lard or other pork products? Does anyone know about Pad Thai--do they ever fry it in lard? I will be going to Thailand soon, and I don't eat pork, so I'm trying to find out whether I should be concerned about "hidden" pork products in food that otherwise seems like it wouldn't have meat in it. Thanks!
Why "Peanut Sauce" is known as Thai Food while Thai people in Thailand don't know what it is? Of course I am Thai, born and raised in Thailand. I find it funny that "Peanut Sauce" is everywhere in the west and seems to get more popular. People always refer it as "Thai" and many believe Thai food is all about peanut. If you go to Thailand, ask them about peanut sauce and most will go blank. They don't know what peanut sauce is. Thais put ground peanuts, as just another ingredient, in so few dishes that they don't consider peanut a main ingredient of Thai cuisine. And peanuts are coarsely ground so that they're like thick grains of sand, and not mud or peanut butter. Why is it like that?
Are Thai Food ingredients available in Benidorm? Planning to move to Benidorm later this year. My wife is Thai and we've normally shopped for Thai food ingredients at a local Chinese supermarket. Has anyone seen or know of Thai food ingredients being available in or around the Benidorm area or know of any chinese supermarkets in that area? Thanks! I acknowledge the comments about ordering online as I already know of one UK based website dealing specifically in Thai ingredients online orders for anywhere in Europe. However this might get very expensive and I was hoping to find a local source for as much as possible. But anyway, Thanks for the suggestion.

What thai food should I try? I want to try Thai food for the first time, and I'm not really sure what to order first. I love spicy foods and other asian foods. I've had curry chicken before. I really liked it. But, I want to try something a bit more daring. Any suggestions? And how can you tell a good Thai restaurant from a sketchy one? Thanks!
What can I substitute for fish sauce in Thai food? I have alergies, however I love Thai food . Is there anything that is pungent like fishsauce that I can use as a substitute. I am not sure if just leaving it out will give me the flavours I am looking for. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you

Why am I hungry after eating chinese/thai food? I've noticed that with chinese and thai food, I feel hungry shortly after eating. I usually eat this kind of food at a buffet, so I'm definitely getting full. Then about 1 hour later I'm kind of hungry. Anyone know why? Is this common?
What alcoholic beverage goes well with Thai food? We all know red wine goes well with Italian or French food. Or beer goes well with pizza. Or a spicy Ceasar or a Margarita goes well with Mexican food. Or Sake goes well with Japanese food. But what goes well with Thai food? I've never been to Thailand so I dunno what they drink with their food. And whenever I order Thai or go to a restaurant I dunno what alcohol will work well with that kind of food. What do you think?
What food is better than Thai food? Is there really any food that is better than Thai Food? I dont think so. WHAT DO YOU THINK? Hey Thais dont eat dogs. Thats the China and Korea. Its illegal in Thailand.
Ordering Thai food with no fish sauce? I am a new vegan and I LOVE thai food. I've researched the ingredients in my favorite dishes and Fish Sauce seems to be the only non-vegan ingredient. Has anyone simply ordered their favorite thai dish without fish sauce? Does it taste remarkably bad? Is the restaurant usually fairly accommodating? Thank you! I did not ask a question about the authenticity of Thai food when it is missing a key ingredient. If you can not answer my question, please do not write anything - Keep your snarky comments to yourself. Thank you.
What are some great recipes for Thai food? I really like Thai food, especially Spicy Peanut pad Thai, and sweet chili noodle mixture stuff. You can tell by my limited knowledge that I just go out and eat the stuff. Can anyone tell me some good recipes???

Is it possible to appreciate Thai food without hot spices/shrimp paste? I am planning on going to Thailand, and I know that hot spices and shrimp paste are extensively used in Thai dishes, but I have never liked spicy food and I have a mild allergy to shrimp. Will I still be able to enjoy Thai food and indulge myself in Thai culture? side note: I love noddles that do not incorporate hot spices and shrimp and I am not a picky eater
Where to find simple and easy ways to cook Thai food.? Does anyone know a simple way books/recipies to recommend for cooking Thai food. I LOVE the stuff and am moving down to Lousinina from North Carolina. Is Thai food making me fat? Is curry unhealthy because it has coconut milk in it? I'm trying to lose weight, and somehow I think my addiction to Thai curry is the problem. Can Thai food be making me fat? I'm eating it from a place called Madam Mam's in Austin... I usually get the green curry with mangrod root and tofu (like 8 fried squares of it.) All I really know is that it is super spicy and coconut milk based, and really good stuff.
What is causing a weird tightening tingling sensation in my jaw when I am eating Thai food? I get the strangest feeling in my jaw muscle right in front of my ear that spreads down my jaw line toward my chin and right under the apple of my cheek whenever I eat Thai or Chinese food. It feels like my jaw muscle is tightening up as I am eating, but it quickly goes away after dinner is over, Has anyone had this happen to them or know what could be causing this such as a certain spice or preservative used in Asian cooking?
It's about Thai Food name (Egg), do you have any idea? I know know what's the name of this food? The egg yoke has become a small bird inside the egg when it is cooked. When the you cracked open the shell you can the cooked small bird inside. And people eat it because they called it a very nutritional & precious food for the Thai people. I really love Pad Thai but I would like to try other Thai food? I always end up getting Pad thai every time I go to a Thai restaurant. I want to try other things but I can't ever convince myself through the descriptions. If I like pad thai, what other dishes do you think I'd like? (I can handle super spicy foods!) Thanks!
Whats the deal with Thai food? Don't get me wrong, I love Thai food. Its just that there are either cashews or some form of nut sauce used in most dishes. Yesterday while at lunch I was asked if the Thai people were big peanut farmers, which I do not know. Could this be a reason. I know most people are afraid when you say Thai because they are expecting to have their faces melted off by spice, but I honestly don't think its too bad. Long live Thai Kitchen in Bridgewater, NJ. and Chao Phaya in Somerset, NJ. Both have amazing food.
Where are some good thai food recipes? I am looking to start cooking more thai food, but all of the recipes I have found online are ok, but not really good. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place or book to get good thai food recipes from. I would almost prefer a good thai recipe book if anyone knew of one. Thanks
How can I make Thai food at home? I've had Thai takeout and absolutely love it. I can't have anything too spicey or anything with dairy in it. Anyone know good recipes?

Has anyone tried to cook thai food at home? I need some help. I cooked vegetables in thai red curry. But did not taste good. Every ingredient was added as per the instructions. This is what i did: Added two tbsp of red curry paste. Then added coconut milk and cooked it for 2 mins. After that added two cups of water and cooked for 5 mins. After this I added the frozen pack of stir-fry vegetables and cooked it for 10 mins. Then added fish sauce. can anyone please tell me what went wrong?
What are peoples thoughts on lunchtime collection or delivery of Thai food? I run a thai takeaway and am thinking of branching out into lunchtime takeaways and deliveries. I plan to advertise to local businesses in which they can submit an order on line and recieve it at set times around lunch. What do you think of the idea and how can it be improved? I would be verry gratefull for any feedback :)
Why does thai food help me sleep? Last might i had thai. I had the prawn red curry and coconut rice. it was yum. Everytime i eat thai i have a great night's sleep. What ingredient is causing this? MSG is meant to cause sleeplessness, not sleepiness. So that doesnt make sense.
How would you describe a Thai food category "gang" in Englsih? "Gang" usually refers to curries. But a Thai friend told me it actually refers to any soupy dishes -- not necessarily something spicy. So Green Curry Chicken, Tom Yum Kung, and even Cabbages in Broth are referred as "Gang". How would you categorize that in English? Does "Curry & Soupy Dishes" sound ok?
How to cook Thai food? For dinner I'll be making sticky basmati rice, Green Curry and Miso Soup. Any tips on cooking Thai food? This will be my first time. Only Asian thing I've done before was sautéing bok choy with spices, which turned out perfect. Yes, Miso is Japanese... I'm doing an Asian mix 'cause I'm crazy like that. ^-^ So, yeah... basically just asking about the Curry. I would think it'd be a hard dish to do. I'm not sure. I didn't get to these responses before I did the curry. (I skipped the miso for another time.) It came about nearly perfect, actually. And I have plenty ingredients left to do green curry again (better next time), so I'll be sure to come here. Thanks to all for answering!
any Thai food experts on here? I love that dish called Massaman (excuse spelling) - it's the one with chicken in a thick peanut sauce. But my Thai cookbook doesn't mention it, and my Thai contacts locally say they use a packet sauce, believe it or not! I want to know how to make it from scratch, mixing the spices etc up myself, not using a packet mix.
Where can I get Thai food in Brooklyn? I mean, besides in Williamsburg or the Court Street area. I live near Newkirk Ave (by the B&Q) and wanted to know if there was a Thai place that delivers over there.
